This article establishes standards for landscaping, street trees and landscape maintenance for new development and uses. The use of landscaping, street trees, and the retention of existing vegetation by property owners reduces visual, noise and lighting impacts, and promotes compatibility between land uses while enhancing the visual appearance of the City. Landscaping protects and enhances critical areas, facilitates aquifer recharge, reduces erosion and storm water runoff, and helps to define public and private open spaces. This article also encourages the protection and planting of vegetation native and common to the Puget Sound region while providing policies and standards for the preservation of natural vegetation and maintenance of landscaping within the City of Lakewood.
